Barack Obama teared during a rally in Charlotte on Monday as he spoke about his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who passed away, at age 86 of cancer, on the last day of his campaign.
Obama told a hushed crowd "Some of you heard that my grandmother who helped raise me passed away this morning. She has gone home, she died peacefully in her sleep with my sister at her side. So there is a great joy as well as tears.
"I am not going to talk about it too long because it is hard for me to talk about it," he went on.
